  • LocationSo many systems, so little time!
Have received awesome help from all the users here with all my other systems but here is one that I am just lost on. I have a hard modded XBox 1, 250gb internal HD, running on a version of XBMC that must be 2-3 years old. I did not do any of the work on this one, so I have limited knowledge of how all the work was done. What I am looking for is a turorial or just advise on how to upgrade to the new release of XBMC that I just got from XBMC4XBOX..

Any help would be greatly appreciated..

I was browsing through some post and saw your post. Do you still any help with this? I happen to be well versed in older mods.

After many sleepless night I have it running smoothly, actually I think better than it originally did. With saying that though, my system was modded over 2 years ago and at the time it was only stable to use a 250gb. Wanted to know if anyone knew if it is now possible to use a larger HD in the XB1 and how to do it?

Well upgrading the HD is different depending on how your unit is modded. If your Xbox was modded using a chip then size of the drive supported depends on the mod chips firmware. The Xcuter3 chips latest firmware allowed you to go as far as 1TB! Now if your Xbox was soft modded then upgrading to a larger drive can be difficult to the point of maddening. Soft modded Xbox's are a little limited and you shouldn't go past 750gb HD but 500gb is better.

In either case you'll need to make a dump of your current hard drives locking and unlocking code. You can get the code using a program called ConFig Magic. ConFig Magic runs in your Xbox and will bring the code up on your TV screen.

Now before I get to far ahead of myself let me know which mod was used to mod your Xbox, Soft or Chip, and do you know about xbins and how to access their data files?

System was hard modded, but not sure which chip was used at the time, all good with Xbins.. I appreciate the help with this, after updating over the past few days, XBMC seems to have so many benefits but I am going to need that space, hope we can get it working..

Hard modded and you already have a handle on xbins; cool then that's 2 tuts I don't have to go into lol. OK now you'll need to get a few things together. I'll make a list.

1.. Hard drive;
older Xbox's only support 40 pin IDE PATA hard drives natively. If you want SATA you'll need an adapter.

2.. ConFig Magic;
You need this to retrieve the Hard drive unlock code from you old HD before you remove it from the console. Mother Boards and Hard Drives are paired up on the old Xbox so in order for the new Drive to operate like the old one it'll need the Original Code.

3.. An FTP program;
You'll need to and from you old HD to you computer and then back to the New HD.

4.. Slayer's Xbox Disc;
This will let you format and set the New HD with ease. It has all the options to create the correct partitions in their correct size and so on. So once you place the New HD in to your old Xbox start the Xbox with the Slayer Disc in the DvD drive.

If you take your time with this you'll get an amazing looking machine. I have had my Xbox for over 9 years and I still use it and update it.

Let me know if you need anything or if you hit have questions or hit into a wall of WTF.

Sounds like you're excited and that's good; trust me it'll help. You'll end up getting frustrated at least a few time before everything comes together the way you want it and being excited about the project and the expected outcome will keep you going.

I'll try to be your Xbox tut version of Google lol. Don't hesitate to ask a question even if it's just to confirm something you already know but want a confident and direct answer on. If i know it then so will you.

Well what scripts are you trying to run. Could be an incomplete script library. Try looking for the Spyder XBMC release. It comes with a complete script file library for a bunch of different video scrapers. A few examples are Cartoon Network, Youtube, and Apple TV. You will get a python script error on a few of them but the easy fix is to find the python add on for XBMC.

I have the Movies scraper set to Imbd, but honeslty have tried all the scraper that come up on the set up for Movies/Videos, same result.. I do have those running though, You Tube, Apple TV, etc.. What i am looking to do is what XBMC did for my music, pulled in CD cover art and album/artist info. I was trying to do that for my movies but no connection?!!?

OK I see what you're trying to do. Ok so I'll assume you're already online with your Xbox; meaning you can get weather updates and the news scroll on the home screen of XBMC. Have you checked the fire wall on your router. Even though the rest on the online items function doesn't mean they all will. The IMDB scraper might be trying to run on a different port or ISP address. Try to check what your set up is.

Evox dash lists some useful info under settings same goes for config magic not chip model,ok when in project mayhem III SE (others should show this info however SE shows this at the bottom of screen under sysinfo),there's a thing that says mod chip lookup disbaled,however on one of my xbox drives it shows the type of chip,not sure which box or drive or which dash skin so xbmc maybe able to show what chip you have without dismantling,then again if your replacing your hdd it ain't that much farther to go to see what chip is there

I'll add this in case someone comes across this thread & if they have issues with the partitoner

As for size of drives i'm running Smart XXX,they have no probs with 1.5tb on v1.4 xbox however those same drives on v1.6 are a no go,ok i would advise you download x-wizard & AID auto deluxe,reason is you may find the auto deluxe version of the hdd partition setup tool (v1.1 partitioner ) may get stuck,what you do is use the x-wizard disc (v1.0 partitioner)to set partitions up then use the deluxe to change those partitions to 64bit or whatever to avoid data corruption on larger partitions,you can now also use the deluxe partitioner to even the size of drive partitions (distribute space evenly)

@Tulvert
slayers is out dated it stopped at 2.7 if i recall,deluxe is later & has pretty much all the progs required,dashes,skins,emulaters all the apps it can do hard or soft mod boxes by auto install or manually as you please,it also contains the apps like config magic,ftp etc,etc which can be run direct as tho it was a live disc,it'd be better to download it & run it you'll see what i mean

AID auto deluxe has two versions
4.0 which is the main the other part is 4.5 update pack which updates 4.0 to 4.5

Edit: http://www.aideluxe....nstaller_Deluxe

Wow finally found to to put Aid thru it's paces. Gotta say I do really like it. Has everything I was looking for and with the lite version it solves the problem that some old Xbox units give you issues with running certain DVD format types.

You gave me a new tool for the arsenal and thank you for that. Even though I update all me emu's and dashes I realize I never update my tools lol. This old modder thanks you.

@JBones415
Been a bit since I heard any word and was wondering how your project is going. Good things I hope.

Running much better. Pretty much abandoned the movie scraper issue as all I was able to find around the net was that most people claim that plug in just doesnt work anymore!? Still looking for a another Modded Xbox to buy to try and put a 1Tb or 500gb hard drive in. Was going to just buy a old Xbox and was going to try to do the Mod myself but found out that all the video stores in my area have stopped selling them... :-P

It can be difficult to find a shop selling older consoles. I'm lucky to have Play-n-Trade in my area and a retro gaming shop one town over. If you don't have a local shop that can help you can always try craigslist or ebay to buy a console cheap. I also know a few online shop that still sell all of the mod accessories you'd need; mod chips, shell replacements, L.E.D.s, etc.

Wish I could be more help in your treasure hunt.
