X3Jailbreak Review

Posted by JPizzle, 25 October 2010 · 18 views

Well, it took quite some time for the tool to get released, we were all waiting for it even after claims that it was shipped earlier, but it has finally arrived. The X3Jailbreak.

It came shipped in a protective case, and essentially looked like a USB drive. It came with a protective case covering the plug end. On the opposite end, is a removable end that allows access to the internal workings of the device. Specifically, it was designed to give access to the switch at the end of it. This switch tells the X3 if it should load its bootloader, allowing the code on the device to be updated, or the other position allows execution of the code on the device.

Loading any exploit on the device requires the use of the X3 Team's application which is available on their website. With the application, you load a .bin file onto the device. The issue is, I have yet to find a method to create your own .bin file for use on the device. This is something that needs to be released, a method for compiling your own code for the device.

However, code has been released on the internet that contains two different .bin files for use on the X3. One includes the hermes payload, and the other appears to be psgroove v1.0. Once flashed onto the device, it is as simple as plugging the device into the PS3. You "engage" the X3 the same way as any other device for jailbreaking the PS3, and you can watch for its visual cues for the successful jailbreak.

Once it does its magic, you have a jailbroken PS3!

Overall, the device does exactly what it says it does. If there are cons, it is that as of the time of this first posting, there seems to be no documentation for creating/compiling the code on your own for use on the device. However, when using the code that is on the internet it is able to do exactly what it claims.
